Informational Letter

It has come to the attention of the Weld County 4-H shooting sports council that there are some parents feeling their kids cannot complete their 4-H shooting sports project due to the shortage of ammunition. They are concerned that they will not have enough ammo to finish their 3 required practices so they can shoot at the County Shoot.

Even though the shooting is the fun part of the project, it is not a requirement to complete the shooting sports project. The only requirement to complete the shooting sports project and remain in good standing is to display a topic board or something made that can be used in your shooting discipline (bullet block, gun rest, spinners, etc.) and complete the record book. The project and record book need to be displayed at the fair.

We do have a few .22 shells that we can sell to those who ask at the practices. We have a very limited supply of these shells for sale, and to give everyone a chance, we will limit the number of shells we will sell to a participant. There is .22 ammo available out there but you may just have to spend some time shopping around. Most of the stores will let you know when they get their ammo shipments in. If you are there early enough waiting in line, you can usually get a box or two of shells.

Another option to the ammo shortage for .22 rifle is to consider shooting air rifle instead. You will just need to let Michelle Langston at the extension office and one of the shooting sports rifle instructors know that you want to change your discipline to air rifle. You will still need 3 practices in air rifle in order to compete at the county shoot.

We do not have any shotgun shells but we have seen trap loads for sale at many of the stores like Sportsmans Warehouse, Bass Pro, Cabella's, Gander Mountain, Jax Surplus, etc.

Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.
